Stretcher taxi can be either station wagon or a larger minibus. Usually the stretcher taxi is ordered by hospitals or health care centres for the patients that require transportation in lying position. In some cars, it is possible to install two stretchers.

Mainly the stretcher taxis are working as a "normal taxi" but when needed, they equip their car for extremely important and responsible work to transport non-urgent patients. The driver takes care of the patient in professional manner all the way from sending hospital to the bed of receiving hospital. When taking patient home, the driver takes care of that the patient gets home securely.

Stretcher taxi is mostly used for transporting customers suffering from back pain, dizziness or patients recovering from operations that do not require treatment during transport.

Most common hindrances for using stretcher taxi are staircases or too narrow elevators. Drivers work mainly alone and therefore use of outsider helper and carrying the stretcher is imbossible because of responsibilities.

Ministry of transport and communications Finland has confirmed the tariff for stretcher transport. To addition of regular starting and waiting fees, driver can charge 11,30€ for every transport as a assisting fee. They can also charge 11,30€ fee for picking up and installing the stretcher. Transports are driven by using rate 3 (1,69€/km).

Stretcher taxis can be paid by bonds of hospitals or health care centres, authorization of The social insurance institution of Finland, debit-and credit cards and cash. Customers can also pay with cards of Finnish taxi association.
